The Thrive Approach

t+centres offers a nurturing environment where the curriculm is individually tailored for each child according to their social, emotional and behavioural needs. The Thrive Approach is interwoven into our daily approach.

Drawing on the latest advances and understanding in neuroscience, attachment theory and child development, The Thrive Approach helps us to better understand what it takes to cultivate healthy, happy, confident children who are ready and open to learn. In particular, The Thrive Approach equips our team to work in a targetted way with children and young people who have struggled with difficult life events, to help them re-engage with life and learning.

Where the progress of our pupils has been limited by past difficulties, particularly emotional issues, The Thrive Approach aims to support their emotional resilience, the development of their emotional regulation system and their concept of self.

t+centres uses a range of Thrive activities, including arts and crafts, music and stories, to enable our students to gain insights and develop skills and strategies to help them move towards a level of functioning which is age-approriate. We use a developemental model to help us understand how we develop socially and emotionally from birth through adulthood. This model gives us a framework for understanding what healthy child development looks like in terms of behaviour and learning, and clarifies what the role of adults should be in facilitating a child's development at each of the different stages. In addition, the model gives us a lens through which to look at and interpret their behaviour, enabling us to idenfity the particular developmental needs being signalled by that behaviour, and to choose appropraite, targeted interventions designed to meet those needs.
