New Head of Centre Appointed

Barry Coppins (BEd (Hons) N.P.Q.H

Barry is our Head of Centre and is responsible for the educational elements and day to day running of the centre. Barry is an experienced teacher of students and has a great deal of knowledge and expertise in working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Issues and Special Educational Needs. Previously, Barry worked at Doubletrees Special School as a teacher of pupils with complex learning difficulties and behaviour issues. He is a qualified “Team Teach” Physical Intervention Tutor and has also worked for Pearson Education as a National Phonics Advisor. Barry has recently worked for Cornwall Council SEN Assessment and Provision team as an Education Health Care Plan Writer. Barry has a mixture of experience of working as a Head teacher and Deputy Head teacher in schools in Plymouth and also has primary teaching experience across all Key Stages

 

 

 

 


Emma and Debbie to join Thrive Team

Emma and Debbie have both undertaken the Thrive Training and are now qualified Thrive Practitioners!

They will be working hard to further implement the Thrive Approach throughout both the primary and secondary provision.


Congratulations to Alex who is now a qualified Bushcraft Instructor

Students can now learn wilderness bushcraft and survival skills in the natural environment.  Exploring  the varied and exciting areas of countryside that surrounds us in Cornwall and Devon. 

They learn a variety of practical skills including:

  • Campbuilidng & natural shelters
  • Controlled and safe fire lighting techniques
  • Water purification
  • Foraging for food - berries and fruits
  •  Rockpooling - foraging, cooking and eating mussels, limpets, winkles and welks.

Last term all of our KS4 students and some of our upper KS3 students completed and passed accredited units in  subjects including:
